Congress Approves Legislation to Make Public Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday gave swift approval to a bill that will force the release of case documents associated with the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a near-unanimous vote in the lower house and a change of position by the president and his GOP allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to delay the joint action involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Hours earlier, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a 427-1 tally.

The public have endured sufficient delay. The survivors have suffered long enough,” the top Senate Democrat declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Let the truth come out. Ensure full disclosure.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next will be sent to Trump for his approval. He signaled on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Although the president has for an extended period dismissed the outcry over the official management of the Epstein case as a “Democrat hoax”, he signalled his support for the legislation over the weekend, and stated he would sign the measure if it comes to him.

Response

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their supporters who were watching from a House gallery, applauded after the bill was approved. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who said he feared the measure would make public personal information of witnesses, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
