Comeback Daniil Medvedev Secures Maiden Trophy in Over Two Years

19 of the Russian's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev secured his first trophy for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid period, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.

His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him falling of the top ten and finally parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is his first title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Victory also signifies he has achieved 21 titles at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led commentators to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was finished.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved service.

The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.

Both players swapped break points in the following set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to create a decider.

Moutet saved 4 early break points in a tight final set before the champion won the break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the title with a shot at the front of the court, with Moutet failing to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
